Black History Month 2023

Every year, Black History Month takes place in the month of October. This year, TGS students relished the opportunity to learn about notable people from the past and present. Some students from primary and from secondary took the opportunity to create imaginative and vibrant posters.

In  secondary English, some students analysed  the evocative work of Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes. The insightful work of these writers provided some real food for thought for the secondary students.

In secondary Science, students were informed of the abundance of black scientists who have made huge contributions to the field of science. These included Kathleen Johnson and Mae Jameson.

In PSHCE and Islaam and Citizenship, students were introduced to a number of notable Muslims from the past including Umm Ayman, Sumayyah Bint Khabbat and Malcolm X.

Overall, this was a wonderful opportunity to look at historical contributions made by a wealth of people.
