Year 9 visited the Jack the Ripper Museum in Whitechapel, East London.

The purpose of the visit was to enhance their understanding of context – Victorian England, particularly the difficult lives of the poor, specifically women. Pupils also gained a further insight into the ‘Gentleman’ lives which middle/upper class supposedly led, this added to the theme of duality in the novella Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. We also discussed the various speculations of who Jack the Ripper was.

Pupils looked at original letters written by the perpetrator to the police and the map of which the crimes took place.
